YOUTH BASKETBALL OF BATON ROUGE - YOUTH GIRL’S DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM

BREC Youth Girl’s Developmental Program will be a recreational instructional league. Girls ages 6-14  will learn fundamental basketball skills, while competing in a fun & supportive enviorment. Volunteers will be needed!!!  

SPORTS ACADEMY + MCKINLEY MIDDLE GYM

League Groups:
Sophomore: 3rd-4th
Juniors: 5th-6th
Seniors: 7th-8th

League Play: May 4-June 29
 Registration period: April 1-30

 

YOUTH BASKETBALL OF BATON ROUGE – WINTER LEAGUE

Prior to registering your team, all coaches a required to complete and submit a BREC Volunteer Coaches Background Check Form by Nov 21 of each year. Teams/organizations with multiple teams and/or age groups are required to have more than one (1) coach per team per age group.

BREC Athletics has transitioned to a grade-based platform, so the school year grade will determine placement of youth. If a coach has a dispute with age requirements, he/she will need to send written notice of dispute to athletics@brec.org before any given game to evaluate any child age requirements.

2026 BREC Basketball Eligibility Requirements

This is for the Oct. 1, 2025-to-Dec. 31, 2026 BREC Basketball season. 
*AGE/GRADE DIVISION RULES (will be used for ALL 2026 Basketball Leagues) 
*Report Cards and pictures will need to be submitted during registration 

  • Little Ballers - (6U/Pre K-Kindergarten) 
  • Freshman - (8U/1st -2nd Grade) 
  • Sophomore - (10/3rd Grade-4th Grade) 
  • Junior - (12U/5th Grade-6th Grade)
  • Senior - (14U/7th Grade-8th Grade) 
  • Varsity - (15U/9th Grade) 

Age/Grade Divisions

Little Ballers (6U/Per K – Kindergarten) An athlete can be no older than 6 on or before August 31, 2026. Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 1st grade as of October 1, 2025 and who is no older than 7 on or before August 31, 2026, is eligible to compete in the 6U/Per K - K division. s

Freshman (8U/1st-2nd Grade) An athlete can be no older than 8 on or before August 31, 2026. Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 2nd grade as of October 1, 2025 and who is no older than 9 on or before August 31, 2026, is eligible to compete in the 8U/1st-2nd Grade division.

Sopomore (10U/3rd -4th Grade) An athlete can be no older than 10 on or before August 31, 2026. Grade policy: An athlete who is in the 4th grade as of October 1, 2025 and who is no older than 11 on or before August 31, 2026, is eligible to compete in the 10U/3rd-4th Grade division. 

Junior (12U/5th -6th Grade) An athlete can be no older than 12 on or before August 31, 2026. Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 6th grade as of October 1, 2025 and who is no older than 13 on or before August 31, 2026, is eligible to compete in the 12U/5th-6th Grade division. 

Senior(14U/7-8 Grade) An athlete can be no older than 14 on or before August 31, 2026. Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 8th grade as of October 1, 2025 and who is no older than 15 on or before August 31, 2026, is eligible to compete in the 14U/7th-8th Grade divsion. 

Varsity (15U/9th Grade) An athlete can be no older than 15 on or before August 31, 2026. Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 9th Grade as of October 1, 2025 and who is no older than 16 on or before August 31, 2026 is eligible to compete in the 15U/9th Grade division.

VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Mondays + Wednesdays / 8-10 p.m.

Ages: 18+ / $425 per team

Winter League: Feb. 16-March 18
 Winter registration period: Jan. 1-31

Spring League: May 4-June 10
 Spring registration period: April 1-30

 

Tournaments:

All managers/coaches must take the SPORTSMANSHIP class. (NFHS Sportsmanship Course)
Football manager/coaches must also complete the concussion training.
Submit completion certificate(s) with registration.

All participants in BREC Athletics programs are required to complete the Waiver/Release form.
