BREC Volunteer FAQ

Does BREC allow court-mandated community service?
No. BREC does not accept court-mandated community service and will not recognize or sign any documents verifying these hours due to safety concerns for staff, families, and animals.

How do I become a Golf Marshal Volunteer?
Golf Marshal positions are filled directly at each BREC golf course.
To get started, contact your preferred course to ask about current openings and application steps.

How do I become a Zoo Volunteer?

  • Zoo volunteers must be 18 years or older, unless participating in the Zoo Krewe Program for ages 13–17.
  • Volunteers must pass a background check and TB test.

How old must I be to volunteer at BREC?

  • Volunteers of all ages may participate with an accompanying adult.
  • Volunteers 16+ may volunteer independently at BREC events under staff supervision.
  • The CIT Program (Counselor in Training), designed for ages 14–17, allows youth to volunteer with summer and seasonal camps after completing required annual training.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

  • Volunteers who complete 30 or more hours qualify for a $500 Louisiana State tax deduction.
  • Eligible volunteers are invited to our Annual Volunteer Awards Banquet.
  • Volunteers enjoy meeting new people, gaining skills, and making a meaningful impact in the community.
